National Conference updates

Good day everyone. I hope all is well with you. I want to update you on the national conference, but first a word about layoffs.

As you know, we have experienced many layoffs and shutdowns in the Steel industry, which has affected many of our ICD sites. Our heartfelt thoughts go out to all of those who have lost their jobs or are on layoff at this time. If there is any good news out of all this, it’s that this is what ICD is all about.

We have several sites that have gone above and beyond to serve our members in need.  As discouraging as it can be to see so many of our members out of work it is also uplifting to see the great work done by the affected sites. From AK Steel, to ATI, to U.S. Steel and ArcelorMittal, great job done by all! Because of your great work we have been able to prepare our members for new careers and give them some hope for the future.    

Now, on to the conference …

Since we first made the callout for site showcase videos at the 2016 ICD National Conference, we have heard some great ideas from a lot of you regarding your plans.

So consider this the first call for submissions. If any sites have already wrapped up their video project, we’d love to see them so send us the link.

I hope many of you, if you haven’t finished it already, at least have begun work on them. Remember, this is your chance to shine – your chance to share with the rest of the ICD universe what makes your program special. As the national office, we get to travel around and see for ourselves how great so many of the individual local programs are; it’s much harder for other local programs to see that for themselves.

The deadline for video submission is September 30.

Also as it relates to the conference, we will have the drawing for the Tino Fulimeni Memorial Scholarship in Mobile. Applications are coming in every day, which is great! If you need more information, just go to the Tino page on our website.
